Welcome to Alan’s personal web page.

I hope you will enjoy your visit.

These pages truly are a gateway to something really big as you will find out if you follow the links to www.thelovegreenschool.co.uk

The School is a school of thought and the thought is that we can build some new kinds in wind turbines by putting our heads together and designing at least one really big one.

I should explain straightaway that I am nearly 85 years old and that I have been extremely fortunate in that I have been involved with building things and community projects since I was very young indeed.

Following this page are others setting out some of the jobs where I have been involved and I hope you enjoy reading these. But for now let me explain where it all started. I was in the cubs the junior arm of the Boy Scouts. We met in a wooden ex-1914-18 war building about forty feet long and twenty feet wide that stood in a factory grounds.

The owners of the factory needed the site but offered a piece of field about a hundred paces away. The senior scouts decided to carry the building by hand to the new place by getting every boy and his parents to help with the lifting. Scores of concrete supports were placed and the tops all leveled off. Using lashed together poles passed under the building and smaller poles under those and smaller ones under them until many people could get round the hut and lift a sensible weight, we all lifted and the entire building was moved a few yards at a time with different teams of people moving in to carry the load all the way to the new place.

That was a good example of teamwork and twenty years later I was able to set up another similar hut in a different town.

Throughout these pages you will find I have always tried to live up to the Boy Scout’s motto of Being Prepared. This School project is another attempt at being prepared ahead of a need.
